Monitor Motion & Refresh Rate Tests (60/120/144/240Hz)

Fifty-seven test videos covering how a display handles motion: ghosting and overdrive, judder and frame pacing, variable refresh rate (G-SYNC, FreeSync, VRR) smoothness, and side-by-side frame-rate comparisons from 24fps up to 240Hz. Use them to compare monitors before buying, or to dial in overdrive and VRR settings on a display you already own.

What these files actually are

Motion patterns are rendered frame-by-frame at the stated resolution and frame rate rather than captured from a live display, so timing artefacts you see are the display's, not the source file's. Downloads are free, unwatermarked and need no attribution; each carries a SHA-256 hash and VirusTotal link for verification. A few of these (G-SYNC/FreeSync/VRR) simulate changing frame pacing the way TestUFO does to make the symptom visible - they can't drive a real variable refresh rate signal, so enable VRR in your GPU and monitor settings first and compare with it on and off.

Common use cases

Choosing a gaming monitor

Compare ghosting, blur and stutter side by side before buying a new panel.

Tuning overdrive settings

Cycle through your monitor's overdrive/response-time presets while this plays to find the cleanest setting.

Frequently asked questions

What should I look for?
Trails, halos or dark coronas behind the moving objects indicate ghosting or overdrive artifacts.
Do I need a high refresh rate display?
No - the effect is visible on any display, but a 120Hz+ panel set to its native refresh rate shows the clearest difference between settings.
Which test should I start with?
If you're comparing monitors before buying, start with the 60 FPS Motion Test and Monitor Ghosting Test; if you already own the display, use the VRR/G-SYNC/FreeSync tests to tune settings instead.
