These patterns hold a fixed near-black or gray field long enough to inspect the whole panel, rather than cutting between scenes - genuine backlight bleed or mura stays fixed in the same spot regardless of viewing angle, which is how you tell it apart from normal IPS/OLED glow. Backlight Bleed Test – Full Black Screen
View in a dark room at your normal brightness. Glow leaking from the edges and corners is backlight bleed.
IPS Glow Test – Dark Screen Test
View in a dark room, then change your viewing angle. A silver/white sheen that moves with your position is IPS glow; fixed glow is backlight bleed.
Screen Uniformity Test – Gray Background
Look for darker patches, tint shifts, and vertical or horizontal bands on the gray field.
5% Gray Uniformity Test – OLED and LCD
5% gray reveals near-black uniformity problems: vertical banding, blotches and vignetting. View in a dark room.
10% Gray Uniformity Test
10% gray shows dark-scene uniformity issues that pure black hides.
50% Gray Uniformity Test
Mid gray is the most sensitive full-screen check for dirty screen effect and tint.
White Screen Uniformity Test
Look for yellowish or pinkish patches and darker corners on the white field.
Screen Clouding Test – Dark Gray Background
Clouding shows as irregular brighter blotches on a very dark gray background. View in a dim room.
Mura Effect Test – Panel Uniformity Defects
Mura appears as irregular blotches or streaks that stay in the same place across different gray levels.
Corner Vignetting Test
Compare the corners with the center on gray, then on white. Darker corners = vignetting.
LCD Horizontal Banding Test
Look for horizontal bands across three gray levels.
LCD Vertical Banding Test
Look for vertical bands across three gray levels.
White Tint Uniformity Test
Different areas of the screen should show the same neutral white, with no warm or cool patches.
Red Green Blue Uniformity Test
Each full-screen color should look even across the whole panel.
OLED Pure Black Test
On OLED, this screen should be indistinguishable from the panel being off. Any glow means the pixel is not fully off.
OLED Near Black Test
Steps through 1-4% gray. Watch for flicker, blotches and crushed detail near black. View in a dark room.
OLED Image Retention Check – Short Test
A short check only: after the color cycle, look for ghost shapes on the gray field. Do not loop this video for hours on an OLED.
OLED Vertical Banding Test – 5% Gray
A slowly panning 5% gray field: vertical bands that stay fixed while the texture moves are panel banding. Dark room recommended.
OLED Uniformity Panning Test
A panning 10% gray field separates panel uniformity defects (fixed) from content (moving).
Monitor Viewing Angle Test
Keep the image still and move left/right/up/down - contrast and color shifts show your panel's viewing angle limits.
IPS Glow Viewing Angle Test
Move around a dark screen in a dark room - IPS glow shifts with your position, backlight bleed does not.
VA Gamma Shift Test
On VA panels, dark steps brighten and wash out as you move off-center.
OLED Off-Axis Color Shift Test
OLED stays contrasty off-axis but may shift slightly toward pink/green - compare the panels at an angle.
Screen Reflection Test
A black screen in a lit room shows exactly what reflections you live with - compare matte vs glossy.

Black and gray fields under room lighting - glossy reflects sharply, matte diffuses into a haze.
Polarization Test for LCD
View the white field through polarized sunglasses and rotate them - LCDs dim/black out at certain angles; OLED barely changes.

With a privacy filter fitted, this text should become unreadable beyond ~30 degrees off-axis.
