Monitor Motion & Refresh Rate Tests (60/120/144/240Hz)
Fifty-seven test videos covering how a display handles motion: ghosting and overdrive, judder and frame pacing, variable refresh rate (G-SYNC, FreeSync, VRR) smoothness, and side-by-side frame-rate comparisons from 24fps up to 240Hz. What these files actually are
Motion patterns are rendered frame-by-frame at the stated resolution and frame rate rather than captured from a live display, so timing artefacts you see are the display's, not the source file's. Downloads are free, unwatermarked and need no attribution; each carries a SHA-256 hash and VirusTotal link for verification. A few of these (G-SYNC/FreeSync/VRR) simulate changing frame pacing the way TestUFO does to make the symptom visible - they can't drive a real variable refresh rate signal, so enable VRR in your GPU and monitor settings first and compare with it on and off.

Monitor Ghosting Test – Moving UFO and Objects

Bright halos or dark coronas around the moving objects mean overdrive is set too high. Try each overdrive level in your monitor menu.
Black Smearing Test – VA Monitor Dark Motion
Watch the dark moving objects in a dim room. Smearing trails on dark backgrounds are common on VA panels.
Monitor Frame Skipping Test – Moving Frame Counter
Photograph the screen with a long exposure (1/10s or slower). Consecutive lit cells = no skipped frames; gaps = skipping. A software screenshot cannot detect this.
Screen Tearing Test – Horizontal Moving Line
Watch the fast moving bar. Horizontal breaks in the bar are screen tearing (V-Sync or VRR is off).
VRR Flicker Test – Dark Scene
This video simulates changing frame pacing. On a VRR display (G-SYNC/FreeSync on), watch the dark background for brightness flicker.
Local Dimming Test – Moving White Box
Follow the white square in a dark room. Halos around it, or dark zones lighting up as it passes, reveal local dimming behavior.
TV Subtitle Blooming Test
Watch the area around the subtitles in a dark room. Glow above the text is blooming from local dimming zones.
OLED Uniformity Test – 5% Gray
Look for vertical bands, tint, and darker patches on the 5% gray field. View in a dark room at your normal brightness.

Dirty Screen Effect Test – Gray Panning Test
A slowly panning gray field. Patches, bands or 'dirty' areas that stay fixed while the texture moves are the dirty screen effect.
24p Judder Test – Slow Camera Pan
A steady 24 fps pan. Stutter or double images on the buildings show 24p judder from your display's frame handling.
Fast Panning Camera Test
A fast horizontal pan over a detailed scene — judge blur and edge clarity while following the motion.
Slow Panning Stutter Test
